B印 YOSHIDAオリジナルシリーズ第一弾として誕生した“GRIPPER”。
“GRIPPER”は吉田カバンの世界的認知の先駆けとなったシリーズであり、その歴史は1981年に遡ります。
当時日本人で初めてNYDC（ニューヨークデザイナーズコレクティブ）にエントリーされることとなった当時のチーフディレクターは“GRIPPER”を出展、大絶賛ののちにバーニーズニューヨーク・マックスフィールド等アメリカの名だたるセレクトショップのウィンドウを飾ることとなりました。80年代はナイロン素材のバッグそのものが珍しく、また世界的にBLACKが注目された時期。その動向をいち早く取り入れ、バッグに対する固定観念を打ち破った吉田カバンの感性は、高く評価されることとなりました。
さらに驚くべきなのがそのコンセプトです。体への負担を和らげる太幅のショルダー、複数のポケットを搭載した機能性、素材自体のクッション感が生むソフトな使用感。そこには使う側とバッグの快適な関係をもデザインした新しい価値観が存在していました。
シリーズ“TANKER”の誕生以前に大きな人気を博し惜しまれながら廃盤に至った“GRIPPER”、忠実に再現された当時の素材とB印 YOSHIDAのオリジナリティが融合した復刻版コレクションをお楽しみください。

“GRIPPER” was reborn, as the first original series of B-JIRUSHI YOSHIDA.
“GRIPPER” was released ahead of world’s recognition of YOSHIDA KABAN, and its history goes back to 1981. At that time, the chief director was the first Japanese who entered NYDC (New York Designers Collective) and decided to present “GRIPPER”. His presentation won a rave review and the bag dressed the remarkable select shops in NY such as Barney’s New York and Maxfield. The nylon bag itself was still very rare in 80’s and black was the color of time. YOSHIDA KABAN’s sensibility, which got the trend into his bag and broke conventions of existing bags, was highly evaluated.
Moreover, we’d be surprised by its details. The wide shoulder strap which eases up the weight, many pockets to enhance the functionality, and the cushioned material for the soft usability. There was a totally new concept of values in which the relationship between user and bag took the form.
“GRIPPER” was born much before “TANKER” series and became discontinued regardless of its popularity. Please feel the fusion of the faithfully reproduced material with B-JIRUSHI YOSHIDA’s originality.
