坂本龍馬のポートレートに代表される約150年前の技法『湿板写真』にも造詣が深く、コンテンポラリーアート界にも多大な影響を与えた菅原一剛氏。 2005年6月NYにて開催された写真展『Mode in the shade』(Pace/MacGill Gallery)では、ロバート・フランク、ハリー・キャラハンらの作品とともに日本人で唯一、氏の湿板写真が展示されました。
ビームスでは2003年10月、氏の湿板写真展を開催。それを機にB印 YOSHIDA限定で吉田カバンとのトリプルネームカメラバッグが誕生しました。

Ichigo Sugawara has a great knowledge of “wet collodion glass”, which is the technique from 150 years ago as typified by the portrait of “Ryoma Sakamoto”. He has also given a big influence to contemporary art scene. At the exhibition “Mode in the shade”at Pace/MadGill Gallery in NY last June, his work was shown as only Japanese with Robert Frank and Harry Callahan.
