2005年ロサンゼルスRed Catギャラリーにて開催されたMargaret Kilgallen回顧展の展覧会カタログ。2001年享年34歳という若さで亡くなって以来、はじめて開催された回顧展となった。キルトにいそしみ、世間とは距離をおいて昔ながらの生活スタイルを守り続けるアーミシュの人々から強いインスピレーションを受けたというMargaret。確かにそのあたたかな作風の中には、確かなクラフトマンシップのようなものを感じさせる。生前から彼女をサポートしてきたスタッフや友人らによってデザイン製作されたこのカタログもまた、クロースによる装丁に葉っぱのエンボシング加工が施されているという、Margaretの作風を裏切らない丁寧かつ豪華なつくりとなっている。208ページという大作の本書は、ペインティング、ドローイング作品、展覧会写真など彼女の主要作品をほぼ網羅する集大成となっている。

"In the Sweet Bye & Bye" documents the exhibition of the same name and features an extraordinary collection of Kilgallen’s paintings and neverbeforeseen sketches drawn from private collections and the artist’s estate. Organized into three sections―sketchbook studies and experiments, fullsize paintings, and photographic documentations of six of Kilgallen’s major exhibitions―the image passages are set off by text pages printed on creamy uncoated paper. The book is designed to suggest the simplicity and beauty of her work, as well as the intimacy and materiality of her sketchbooks and personal journals: a diarykeeper’s bookmark ribbon; the tactile paper of the essays; and loose compositions modeled after the spontaneous fashion of Kilgallen’s gallery painting groups. A typeface that reflects the wit and style of her quirky handdrawn words and phrases was selected for the essays.
